Redrig,
many thanks for your prompt reply. I am having distributor issues. I believe that I am not able to proerly adjust dwell. So I am thinking of switching to the pertronix distributor.
Application is
1986 Bluefin 1900 2.3L OMC Cobra.
Is it fair to presume, that the grey wire in the above image was originally grey wire from ESA straight to (-) terminal of the colil?

Thats correct.

Keep in mind that CDI electronics makes shift interrupters that are compatible with the pertronix . Then there is no splicing of your harness , you just hook the new module and go.

you are using a dwell meter, correct?
Good Day Sir,
as best as I can... adjust, replace cap test. repeat if necessary.
I used to do this on my 1972 Triumph Bonneville.,. it had dual points
Would love to have a GM distributor with the window

no need to replace the cap and run the motor. you can set dwell while cranking

hook up dwell meter, with cap and rotor laying on the floor (not installed), crank motor over and read dwell while cranking. Have the lock screw snug, but not tight, and have a screw driver between the two nubs on the plate and the slot in the points. as you are cranking, you can adjust the dwell up and down by turning the screw driver.

usually can dial it in in about 10-15 seconds.
