It must have another proper name
HERES WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT...
i have a newer mako 17' cc
it can sit slipside for a week or more between trips.if it rains water
seems to acumulate in the lower
inside hull around the pump.when enough it will auto pump out (fine)
execpt one time when the pump float hung up draining the battery .now the mako is one of the better makes out there.does anyone offer a direct over
board draining boat in a small boat

i know... and i have a full boat cover
but ..... a major p.i.a to
store and tie down properly
not to speak about gull sh*t

Re: direct draining ?

Are you talking about a self bailing boat? They have two holes in the back where water that comes into boat can escape. I think these are usually for sea water that gets in over bow or transom though. I don't know if they're for rain water accumulation.

You can add a scupper(s) in the transom just above the floor. (Scupper = rubber valve that allows water to run out but not back in.)
2 3/4" from West Marine $7.95

On a 17' I would use 2
This will make it self-bailing

Its self bailing two scupers at rear.
The forward cast deck and anchor
locker both drain into the lower hull not over board, water gets into both
when it rains and when i hose it down

Does your pump have a seperate float or a built in one? I had a seperate float and it hung up a couple of times so I replaced it with a unit that had a built in float.
It has a screen to keep the junk out of it so it doesn't hang up. I have never had a problem and it works great.

go with stratos' recommendation. you won't find a boat with a bilge that doesn't accumulate water, self-bailing or not. if you keep it in the water, upgrade to a bilge pump that has a built in float, and not the cheap lever style.

also, what i do is keep only one battery on while the boat sits, and let that power my automatic bilge pump. if it drains it, i switch over to the second battery to start. good luck-
