I have stainless rails on my bow. They are dirty and a little oxidized in some places. Whats a good product to make them shine again.

Re: Dirty Rails

I am a fan of stainless steel. There are many products you can use however, good old rubbing compound works good and I use 000o steel wool at the same time.

There are even stainless steel cleaners, metal polish such as never dull....... you can darn near use anything except acid since stainless is so resistant to things.

When you get done cleaning it a light coat of any car wax will keep it sharp.

Re: Dirty Rails

look in your local supermarket for a can of 'Barkeepers Helper' it is a lot like comet , but does an AMAZING job on stainless steel.....I scorched the living HELL out of a very expensive set of stainless steel pots and pans,...almost threw them out until I found this product....saved me a big expense on a new set.Use the stuff with 3M green scrubbing pads....wear rubber gloves ...unless you want every nick and cut on your hands to sting... ;)

Re: Dirty Rails

Everything bit of metal on my boat is 316 Stainless. Use Woodie Wax or Fluid Film and brass wool. Finish up with a coat of Collinite insulator wax and they will be as good as new.

Whatever you do, do not use steel wool. Small particles of Fe get embedded in the SS and you end up with "rusty" stainless.
