Dis-assembling a tiller handle on 15hp John/Rude?

I have a '92 15Rude that gave up the ghost.(powerhead) I got a '88 15 Johnson for parts. Going to put the two together and make one. It's going to be a '88 Johnson with a few Rude parts in it. My problem is the Johnson control handle has cable frozen up - it will not turn at all. I have a good one in the 'Rude handle. I can't find in my manual or online anyone that tells you have to take the handle down and put it back together. I need to know the trick to getting it apart?

A small round spot about 1/4 dia on the plastic ring just above the handle must be pushed in before the grip handle may be pulled off. Screw the idle adjust IN to get it free of the grip handle.
