I'm sure I was one of the instigators in this thread with my unpopular opinion. :p I enjoyed the debate though. Hope no one took any of my posts personnally. They certaily had no such aim.
The thread was getting a bit long in tooth though, so I don't blame the mods for killing it.

Hey Rabbit,

I think you score by the thread not the post. What do you need to climb to the rank of dock boy? ;) The best I ever achieved was the ranking of deck ape.. :p

Re: Disappearing threads.

Wow! Seems like there was a hornets nest around here, and it seems it was gassed and cleared up some.

Now, I'm not trying to stir the pot. I didn't even see the thread that your talking about here,,BUT,,I would like to add, that Carphunter has a point with his question. I too, have returned to see if any comments were made to some of my longer winded replies (that I felt I was careful not to offend anyone) and realized it got poofed along with the rest of the thread! I'm not one after posting numbers, but it does get aggravating when you put time into replying, trying to play by the rules, and watch your words "Poof".
Reminds me of being in the second grade, and just because little Johnny can't behave the whole class gets punished. :D
You also have to take into consideration, that if someone is replying to help, explain, or calm a situation, or answer a question asked, after watching enough work disapear, they just quit trying, which is not good for the one seeking help, advise or tips.

I'd also vote for more selective Editing, over whole thread Poofing.

There is no better opportunity to share love than when a thread gets ugly ;)

Re: Disappearing threads.

i don't believe i ever commented in it, but i agree, there were some really helpful, insightful replies in there. it was a shame to see the whole thing go poof . i wished i had of saved some of it. i think there was a great comment by 18rabbit that i was pondering before going offline. now its gone :)
