I am with your friend, if it was a hole knocked through by a rod or something maybe. but a hole corroded from the cooling passage side to the block I would hesitate.<br /> that much corrosion can get a bit wild to weld.<br />it may be that someplace like southwest marine is going to be the best bet. how long will the welder warrenty his weld?

I too would be very hesitant to use a block that had a hole into a water passage even if not caused by corrsion since they are so hard to seal. I would not consider it where it was caused by corrosion. Yes you can buy just a block. This is a very busy time for marine people and hard to take the time to tear down a motor a customer is not sure they want to buy.<br /> I have some blocks and a couple of complete power heads. Would it help in determining how badly corroded the block is if I got you a picture of the hole and surrounding area?

I gave my machinist the "go ahead" to bore #5 (no need to resleeve, per his advice), hone the rest, weld the hole, and fix the chewed up part on the head across from #5.<br /> Click here for pictures of the hole and water cavity.<br /><br />Also, a friend of mine who has rebuilt hundreds of outboards says "why don't you bore all 6 and get more horsepower that way." What is the scoop here...is this true? But don't I need to change out other components such as carbs or no???
