Season's greetings all, I've removed the carbs and need to replace the intake manifold gasket. I'm hung up at what I believe is the shift rod connection and the connecting rod housing on the manifold. Not sure what or where to disconnect from for complete manifold removal & so as not to cause any possible shifting problems later. 1979 Johnson 115, gear currently in neutral{please inform if incorrect}....I see three different retainment parts and would appreciate any help on just what step{s} to take...Thanks

details {edit-slotted nut is a bolt head actually}

Re: disassembly question

Remove the shift rod screw that you have labeled "slotted nut".

If you drop the gearcase, try not to turn the shift rod.

Re: disassembly question *{more ?'s update}

Hey folks, more questions ...figured I'd add them here, hope they're found lol
{and yep it's all greek to me as you've probably guessed :redface:}

1979 Johnson 115 V4 on a stand, is getting a going thru as this is a new motor to me. I've got the carbs off for rebuild, choke solenoid off, starter off, intake manifold off {gasket repair}, most electrical connections unhooked {for cleaning} and that is leaving a few wires dangling...will there be any problem hooking up power to the TnT to tilt her up for lower end removal...I would asume the TnT doesn't share a common power feed with anything else, but we all should know what assuming can lead to...Thanks for assisting this rookie.

Part 2: while your here, & if you don't mind....on the leaf valves and leaf plate assembly, will the same carb cleaner be alright to use and probably more importantly, what should I use to clean the 'rubber{?}' filler blocks...

Again I appreciate any assistance, hopefully this will please the Mrs too, as she's always telling me I need professional help ;)

Re: disassembly question *{more ?'s update}

I would not recommend anything more than soap and water on the filler blocks. The rest should not require much cleaning, but carb cleaner should not harm them.

The PT&T on the 1979 motors got power through a separately fused box mounted outside of the motor, usually on the transom or near it. It had no direct connection with the engine wiring.

Thanks again, very much appreciated

One final question {lol I'm sure} once the carb's and leaf plate assembly has been cleaned, should I coat them{internally/externally} with something for protection? as it will be spring probably before a test run of anysort.
