something mildly abrasive will get anything off includeing your gelcoat if u go at it hard enough..

auto rubbing compound or fine wet and dry finishing paper will shift most things..

if u dont want it to come back keep your boat out of the water.. its messy stuff.. i dont know why but the stuff that forms just at and above the water line is a lot harder to get off than the stuff that forms below the water line.. the other secret with cleaning boat bottoms is to never let the crud dry on.. it comes off a lot easier when the boat has just come out of the water..

trog

Re: Discoloration

I use a product call FSR which is available at some marine stores. It's a wipe on gel that removes water line scum lines. Not too expensive and a liitle seems to go a long way.

Simple Green - spray on full strength, wipe off and rinse. Works great for fresh water staining.

Muriatic acid (hydrochoric acid) available at hardware stores or toilet bowl cleaners (which contain hydrochloric acid in a gel which is easier to apply). Both are cheap. Use gloves and glasses. It won't hurt the fiberglass but keep it off of metal and fabric and yourself. Works like magic, no elbow grease required, use the rest on your toilet and impress your significant other.

Probably lime. I'm with jimd. Muriatic acid will eat if off no problem. In fact I just did this yesterday. He is right you can get it at the local hardware store and its cheap. Its heavy duty and so use gloves and protection as he mentioned. Don't get it on aluminum as it will eat it up. It doesn't seem to affect stainless steel. Also, it will eat the wax off so be sure to rewax the area you use it on.

FRS which stands for fiberglass stain remover works very good.If that does not do it, then get any liquid or gel toilet bowl cleaner for .99 cents at Walmart. It is an acid that works almost as good as On-Off which is about $10.What you need to do is put a good coat of wax on it when you are done and again just before you launch it in the spring.Charlie
