Hi,,
Now that I have my warning horn problem fixed. I have a question on the VRO oiler. (1998 johnson 115)

the VRO has been bypassed for quite some time. Is it safe to just hook it back up to my oil tank. I would rather not have to mix the oil and gas.

does the VRO side of the fuel pump go bad from not using it?

if I do try and hook it up is there a procedure I should follow?

thanks

Was it working properly when it was disconnected? If so, having opened it up, you will need to purge the air from the oil line and by all means, continue to mix oil with the fuel until you are certain the VRO is working properly. You do that by marking the oil level in the tank. You then keep track of how much fuel you burned while noting whether or not the oil level in the tank is dropping. After you've run about 12 gallons of fuel through the system, it should take about one quart of oil to raise the oil level back of the line you made at the start of the test. If the level has not gone down or not enough I would not use the VRO as it is probably not working correctly.

Re: disconnected VRO pump. can I just hook it back up?

Hi,, I don't know if it worked. long story short... I bought the motor from someone who bought the motor off someone that upgraded to 4 stroke. And I never thought to ask if the VRO works when I bought the motor.

The process you outline for tracking oil consumption to make sure it works makes perfect sense.

I was wondering if it did work and it was disconnected cause this person just wanted to mx their own, does/can the oil side of the fuel pump go bad from non-usage.

thanks
