distributer cap rubber stickers? Mercruiser 120 s/n 5828080

Purchased a Sierra cap 18-5385.

Mercruiser 120 s/n 5828080
It came, with two rubber sticker like things, sort of like rubber two way tape. I don't see anything like that on the old cap. Any ideas what these stickers/tape things might be for?

Wild guess: To designate the #1 plug wire, if it is not otherwise marked.

Post a picture, hard to say what was in the box when the cap was packaged.
