Hi all; Have an issue with timing, Volva Pent 2.1 AQ125B, New plugs,Oil, and
Electronic modual, replacing the points, rebuil carb. 800 rpm, 6 btdc. When
at crusing speed, 3100rpm, 40-45 btdc, can't really tell, scale not that far.
Do I need to replace distributor, or do I have a timing belt issue, can not see
timing marks on pully's, cooling system in the way (closed system).
First time I/O owner, and not a mechanic, looking for help. Cleaned distributor
when I had it out for modual replacement, could I have done something to
make it advance to much? Or could the springs get weak and allow for to
much advance. Thanks in advance.

Re: Distributor Advance issue?

You need to get an advance timing light to check the advance timing. It should be 32-35? BTDC at 4200 rpm.
There are 2 springs under the points plate in the distributor. Are they both ok and hooked up?

Re: Distributor Advance issue?

Thanks for the reply Don S.
Yes, springs intack and hooked up, look OK, but I'm no machanic, looked
at when I replaced the points with a Hot Spark Modual, Dist. was on bench
when done, but never put on a test bench. I'm Electrical controlls Engineer by trade. I take it an Advance Timing light is not the same as a regular
automotive Timing light?

Found the timing light info on the web, I believe it's correct. I think I will
have to work on carb adjustment now, one last trip for the year today.
Getting time for storage around here. Thanks for the knowledge.
