Just purchased a twin engine 28 ft Regal,

twin screw and Volvo engines are new too me but I am sure I will have too get too know them
twin 4.3
years 2003
Port engine was running fine then developed back firing and boat could not gain any speed
Was not far , No Sea Tow call, closed engine, returned too dock we discovered distributor came loose.?
Old owner rigged it too stay on, must have tightened screws or used larger then required and cracked plastic and stripped threads under cap

Will not MCDYVER with zip ties, seeking advice from fellow boaters that have same engines and knowledge on this fix

Making a few calls too other marine guys they say the red Volvo engines are chevy S 10 vortex and its the same
shaft and distributor assembly as 2003 S10 . If I go junk yard what year engines off of S10 vehicles am I okay .
I prefer not too go that route, want too keep same shaft and replace top assembly
Is there a clip or what holds distributor assembly onto the shaft ?
Is it one piece and I am forced too replace entire shaft and assembly ?
Dealer part ? If so do you guys know the number,
This boat was a consignment boat, old owner claims original books, part numbers, were in a binder on boat. Not there and if you guys know of a source too find I would appreciate it.
I still have my old Sea Ray 21 ft walk around , 4 cylinder mercruiser fishing boat. When I bought this boat 14 years ago it came with every part number and picks which is invaluable .

Did not have correct tools with me too open blot and remove shaft, will be doing that this morning.
What can I expect ?

Thanks for info

the marine distributor and automotive distributors are different.

just simply buy a new marine distributor.

yep, I would suggest looking up your model of engines and order the proper cap. Some of them cross reference to auto parts, some do not. You may pay a couple bucks more for the marine cap but you will feel better knowing you did it right.

The cap threads into a plate on the distributor. Are you saying the threads in the plate are stripped? It's just the cap itself that is loose right?
