Distributor upgrade.

I'm going to be replacing the distributor in my 1982 Sea Ray 225 EC that has a stock mercruiser 228 in it. To upgrade to electronic ignition was not much more than the $300ish it would cost me to get a new points distributor to my door. I decided on a PERFORMANCE DISTRIBUTOR D.U.I. (Davis Unified Ignition) H.E.I. marine distributor for $340. It is a one 12v wire hookup with the shift interrupt wire going to the tac wire of the new distributor. After it is built I should see it by 7/24/15 to install it. Of the wires now currently going to the original distributor and coil how do I find the shift interrupt wire and a clean 12v keyed wire needed to hook this up, and what to do with the unused wires, dead end them or jumper some together? A little (or a lot of) guidance would be appreciated. Has any one else used this distributor, good/bad things to report?

purple wire from + side of coil for ur keyed 12v and the shift interrupt wire I believe is white with green stripe or white with black stripe. Just follow wire from the switch, all other wires leftover can be cut and taped off. I went with same dizzy with my new rebuild and its the best thing going out there for marine dizzys

Thank you for the tips. It was also good to hear from someone that has had good success with the same "dizzy".

The + side of the coil is going to be a resistor wire so it will only have around 7-9 volts. I would run a new wire but you could go off the electric choke if you wanted.

A full clean 12v is needed. I Was hoping to find a switched 12v in the engine bay. My choke is heated by exhaust not by electricity. Thanks for the head up. How do I test the + feed to the coil to see if there is indeed a resister wire in there?

If I could find the resistor section of the wire then that could eliminate running ALL new from the key. Can anybody help out with that?

I missed reading ur old dizzy was points so ya the constant wire will be resisted. Use the other wire on + side of coil but u will have to move that wire on backside of ignition switch to constant 12v because it will be hooked up to cranking side of switch or run a new wire and dont worry about using a relay as that dizzy doesnt pull much amps
