Re: diving ireland
Hi all divers,
As good as Ireland sounds (and I have been there) I'll like to introduce you to my favourite dive sites.
Number 1 on the list is a place that most people overlook. That's one of the things that makes it so nice. A group of islands called the Houtmans-Abrolhos, off the west coast (of Australia) about 200miles north of the capital, Perth. It can only be reached by private boat (another plus), or a small number of charters that go to the southern part of the group. It is an area where the northern and southern fish and coral species cross. The corals are superb and being 30 miles offshore the water clarity is, at worst, great.
Number 2 is a place a bit further north, called Coral Bay. Took the wife there last time she was in Oz. She was amazed and said it was far superior to the Red Sea, which I haven't dived. The interesting thing about the corals here is that about 6 years ago a lot of them died. The coral spawning coincided with a still night and high tide. The coral spawned and it didn't move out to sea, dropped back down and suffocated most of the corals. I thought that the corals were looking a bit ordinary, but Gina thought they were great.
Number 3 is an island out from the chief port of Fremantle. At the west end of Rottnest are some spectacular underwater caves. With some even more spectacular fish in them. This area is a dive magnet for the more experienced local divers. My mate, Neil (Getreel on this forum) and I night dive the area. Most of our friends say we are crazy... Some
big sharks are seen there.
Well that's about it for the moment.... interested? drop me a line and I'll be more than happy to give you more information and if you decided to come visit, I have a guest room in my house that you're more than welcome to use. I guess I don't need to say that I have a boat setup for diving....

Chris...........
