DIY spray on type liner? (like Rhino liner)

I'm looking at more options for some wood restoration.
Some options are wood with the epoxy treatment and the synthetic material approach.

Now I am wondering about a DIY spray-on like material, possibly in a roll on. The Rhino liner (sp?) like things for truck beds seem like a nice idea, but I don't think the cost of a pro for some of my pieces will be worth it.

Does anyone know of any options?


The applications will be from small wood doors to bench tops to flooring in my 18' aluminum boat (1984 Westerner Bayrunner). I'm closing in on being due for new floors.

you can get a special spray nozzle and use a compressed air sprayer to apply it. it comes in a 2 part kit. its not cheap, but cheaper than having a shop do it.

Do you have the brand name for that part or a picture of it. I was thinking to redo the floor of my boat. Take out the carpet and then spray paint and or rhino paint (like on the truck bed) it. Would last longer.

Google durabak they even have marine applications.

You still have to seal the wood good. I went this route with Durabak ordered for $80 a gal(now it is $113/gal). Ordered 4 gals. Was great for the first year and then I found that the plywood was delaminating( Because I did not seal the wood). It seems the this stuff is porous and water wicks in. I was going to redo all of the wood in my 16ft this winter but this Reinell project has taken presidence. Will be puting the small boat up for sale so I can have money for the other one. I also used the truckbedliner that Walmart carries(Duplicolor I believe) to coat the aluminum under the floors(it is cheaper) But it peels off. Lesson learned is Proper prep work in an absolute must.

Based on the "duraback" suggestion and a line on their site, I googled "diy bedliner" and there seem to be a pile of people out there who make similar type stuff.

I think sealing the wood with epoxy resin and then a coat of this stuff would be nice. The Question becomes the holes for attaching the floor again... a question for another post.

HOws thw durabak feel on the bare feet? i am thinking of using it..
other then the delam of your ply did you like it and would you use it again?

I second these questions. I just installed carpet & am now having thoughts of pulling it up. I may go with durabak and snap in carpet.

I would recommend the Durabak again. Except for the cost. The only thing that Durabak has is that the nonskid part of it is ground up tires. It does not feel too bad on bare feet. I just got into too big a hurry.I had carpet originally and that came up within the first year(this is a 2002 boat)due to poor manufacturing. as this is a fishing boat I wanted something easier to clean. I would not recommend the brand that Wal mart caries as it feels like a plastic truck bed liner.

Just make sure to read the label.. I was going to do one of the diy liners and read on the label that it softens in high temperatures.

Overton's carries a DIY nonskid product for boats. Tuff Coat I beleive it is called. $60 some dollars a gallon. It is said to work on fiberglass, wood, metal, and a lot of other things. You can roll or spray it on and it comes in several different colors.
