Hey guys. I am planning on fabricating a swim platform for my 2000 bayliner 2150 classic.

It has a problem. The transom of the boat is not flat from top to bottom..

and here is the water line

so i can see myself running into problems with bolts/mounts for it. I am pretty sure i will need to use 4 mounts, 2 smaller ones on each side, larger ones in the center. I am pretty sure i will also need to hinge the center of the platform for the outdrive to come up all the way.

I am also thinking of mounting the platform a little bit higher up than the current one is (maybe an inch or two) using spacers.

anyone have any suggestions, ideas, or thoughts on this?

TIA!

here is a better pic. im somewhat planning to make this out of trex decking. possibly their tongue and groove composite. 2 staggered layers.

so here is where i am at with this project...

I picked up the trex composite decking and cut it how i wanted it. I got the 1+" thick stuff.

My questions deal with mounting it..there seem to be a couple ways to do it and I am not sure which would be best. If you have any experience with this please post up!!

problem #1. Problem #2 is leaving space, or creating a hinge that will allow the outdrive to come up...

Option 1:

something like this i think would work VERY well. partial problem with this is I would have to somehow add 2-4 inches to this to bring the platform up to a suitable level. OR build a hinge to let the drive come up?

option 2: hanging the platform with 3-5" L brackets at the back. I think they would have to go on the top instead of under because of space issues. mounting them above puts the mount/bolts in the thin-ish fiberglass instead of the wood-reinforced part of the transom. then i would use a support bar from the ~middle-3/4 out on the platform to the lower transom.

any thoughts??

alright so here are the progress pics. this step is 27" deep and 78 inches long at this point. I plan to chop it down and curve it nicely to fit the boat. then truck-bedliner paint and some type of grippy waterproof foam.

making a mess cutting the decking to proper lenghts

loosely set on the floor to get an idea of look

4 perpendicular supports. each will probably have its own support hardware. it is very sturdy this way. my younger brother and i stood on it with zero flex (about 350-400lbs)
lined up...not screwed together yet

then i got hungry...

let me know what you guys think for mounting this badboy!!

Here's a link for one I did and installed.
Nice job on your platform.

I have also seen were you can brace it from the top with cables, one on each side of the platform that attaches to the top of the transom and some of those swinginging hinges under the platform that attach the platform to the transom. That would solve your trim problem and you could raise the platform all the way up when you didn't want to use it.

hey thanks for the link! Yours looks great. I did not even think of cabling it that is a good option as well.

here is what i am thinking for hinges...and possibly copying the whole thing. http://www.bronkalla.com/swim_platform.htm

my main concern is where to place the hinges.

alright guys this is about to get serious.

I am looking into drilling holes in my transom and am hoping someone who clicks this thread has some experience here.

the boat has a large re-enforced area. can i drill through it to thru-bolt it? any idea if there is anything inside this re-enforced area i need to look for? steering cables/pumps/anything INSIDE it?
