DMV Closed!!

I just bought a boat, the regi sticker was good until april 2010, I go to the dmv today and their closed...

Its the fourth of July weekend and its going to be beautiful out....The dmv wont be opened until the 6th

If I go out with the old regi and tell them I am just testing it out do you think they will ticket me?

What could happen and how much could it cost?

Any other way to get it done with out the dmv?

Personally I would chance it. Do you have the bill of sale to show them when it was purchased?

Some states you can take care of it online. At least then you would have the receipt to show the water patrol.

Otherwise, see what the fine is and take your chances if you think it is worth it. Just make sure that you are legal in every other way and have the bill of sale with you.

Holiday weekend with beautiful weather!!! Law enforcement will be boarding as many boats as possible this weekend. If you want to take a chance then I would say that this is a poor weekend to do it.

You should be ok as long as the bill of sale is dated less than 30 days...but don't quote me on that...I've been wrong before

When we bought our Jet Ski you better bet I took it out on the lake. Of course we got pulled over but I had the bill of sale and they didnt do anything about it. Im sure it varies per state.

I'd do it....show the bill of sale and all other papers and be as honest and courteous as you can. First, Have you tried other DMV's in the area? Or is that the only one?
Mine was open - I just got my new (to me) boat title transferred and up to date about an hour ago. Good luck.

I'm not sure of your locale, but here during the holidays they will board as many as they can. The problem is that it's been two months since you bought the boat. You will very likely get a ticket even if you say you are just "testing it out".

It's 4th of July weekend! Amateur hour! Stay off the lake/river/ICW/Ocean until next weekend and get you registration taken care of next week! JMHO...

I think I would chance it especially if the sticker is like most other states where it has the last two digits of the year in big numbers on it and it reads 10, they will likely never know. Although, if you do choose to go that route keep a low profile and make sure everything else is legal and NO drinking. I have been pulled over on Michigan for not having the updated registration sticker on the boat (it was registered for the year, just had not put the sticker on) so it can and does happen. Not sure what the fine is and thats something you will have to weigh for yourself. If you do go that route, good luck and have fun...

Also I looked at the boater registration info for CT and maybe you can use some of the paper work to show that you have applied for the registration and then play dumb from there.

dumb , courteous and sober is the way to go...if you want to chance it....I would...make sure you have on-board and easy access to all safety items requiered...have fun and be careful bro...I'll be sweating in the sun restoring my boat this Holiday...I wouldn't let some paper work spoil me off of the water...

I know for a FACT that in ohio you can drive a boat with the old registration for up to 30 days. Same situation happened to me (couldnt get off work to go) and i emailed and asked. I had an email directly from someone from the BMV saying it was OK. I took it out on the water with me when i went out.

Like a few have already said, I'd run it and be sure I was completely legal everywhere else. Ya just have to know going in if you pass the watercraft officer that is having a bad day, you're going to have one, too.

Even if you get the ticket, I would think any prosecutor with half a heart will let you slide if you tell them your story.

In Wisconsin we can do all the paperwork online. We just keep the receipt and all paperwork in the boat and you're good to go. I would think that the patrols are just looking for a reason to stop someone to check for DUIs and you're giving them a reason.

Fun with Governor Rell DMV will be closed till Tuesday, why they have to close on Friday is beyond me , don't chance taking the boat out, the EnCon police and rangers will be more than happy to ruin your day.

Well, I took it out for a quick spin since I just bought it and wanted to see how it ran, it ran great, just bounced a lot on plane, cant figure out what the problem should be....

I will wait until next week to get it taken care of, im going camping with the family any ways....Thanks for all the info guys
