Do 1994 40 HP 4 cyl. Mercs have thermostats ?

Not that my engine is having overheating issues but wanted to check it maybe replace if orig. but cant find it ???<br />thanks..

No thermostats on the 44 cu.in. 4 cyl, engines

Went thru the same search last year. Thought merc had really hidden it well then the experts here set me straight. The motor really runs cool (cold ?) without a t-stat. Temp gauge never exceeds 110F. Checked the sender accuracy with boiling water and the gauge was right on. Guess these motors just run on the cool side.

110 degrees thats pretty amazing, Is that in a cold Canadian lake though ?

Water might be really cold this year at the rate the ice is melting. Still have ALOT of ice on lake Simcoe. Probable another 3 weeks (if the weather stays warm) before we see any amount of open water. There was 30" of ice out there 3 weeks ago.<br />I am thinking of installing a resistor across the gauge terminals to artificially show a higher reading. That way I will be able to see small differences in actual temp. Right now the needle sits just off the peg on the low side. What temp does your motor run at ?

I dont have a gauge, I do have some thermometers that would work, maybe I'll check it. I've felt the telltale when flushing & it felt hotter the 110 but not positive..<br />You got to move down south a bit Rod I bet you'd enjoy the boating & fishing more.
