Do all mid 90's 60's run cold?

1995 2 stroke 3 cyl 60 hp.
My temp guage, sender, thermostat, poppet, etc all are perfect. At idle the motor warms up to maybe 110 degrees but at cruise speed temp guage goes to the bottom (60 degree water temp).
Dealer mechanic says "they all run cold like that."

Anybody have this motor with a degree reading temp guage that can verify this?

Can't confirm the 60hp version but my 40hp runs just as cold, even in the heat of summer. If I run it hard for 30 minutes the temp just approaches 110F. Better cold than too hot I guess.

I sent a note to Mercury asking the same question about my 50hp.. They wrote back that the lower HP Merc's run cold. He said most of the time the needle won't even move off the pin (like mine does)So I just rely on the temp gauge to let me know if it's REALLY heating up.

Jerry

i have run a few smaller mercs, and they all run cold, i just made sure my tepm sender and gague worked every year so i knew it would tell me of any problems, also having your water pump and stat changed at a regular interval does ease a mind

I am going to experiment with a resistor shunt across the terminals of the gauge to artificially show a higher temp on the gauge. That way, I will notice any small differences in temp as it happens rather than just see the needle sitting on the peg the whole time.

How can 80+ degree water cause a temp guage to read less than that at 60 degrees?
