Do I have a bad Power Pack?

Evening,

Have a '77 35hp Johnson, no remote controls, just a tiller.

I've posted before of electric gremlins, chased the one out of the starter solenoid, now running down the ignition gremlins.

Continuity tester showed good for current from the magnetos when cranked, down the line leading into the power pack. However, the only light I got coming from the power pack was the one that ends up leading to the cutoff button.

Current was tested by grounding tester's alligator clip and piercing wire with pointy end. Like I said, had a green light until after the power pack and before the coils.

Any thoughts?

Sounds like you are making meaningless tests with an inadequate test instrument.

Actually, he's telling the truth. A continuity tester won't help you diagnose a problem with that engine's ignition system. Not at all, unless you have a wire that's broken somewhere. Continuity testers are find for checking wires. They do nothing with other circuits.

Bottom line is that we can't tell you if you have a bad powerpack or coil based on your tests. Do you have a manual for your outboard? It'll have the procedures for testing the ignition system. Or, you can buy and replace parts, but that'll be a lot more expensive.
