Do i have a carb problem?

I just rebuilt all three carbs on my 1986 60hp Evinrude, the top carb was fine, but the middle carb had a crack down the entire length of the high-speed nozzle (the one that dips down into the bowl). The bottom carb had a crack at each end of the HSN one at the top, visable through the throat, and another crack on the bottom end. I havent owned the boat long. Ever since Ive owned it, its seems like it never hits its tippy top end, full throttle seems maybe 1000 RPM quieter than i think it should. It's pushing a 20ft pontoon, if simply being under such a great load is the reason it just doesnt sound whiny enough. I've also had fuel pressure issues lately, could these cracks be the reason why my carbs were leaky? Because nothing really looked that bad during the rebuilds, except the high speed nozzles. Anyways does anyone know if this is really a big deal? the nozzle itself is perforated afew times so i dont know if the cracking really matters all that much. but id like to know.

Yes, the cracks are a problem, the tubes should be replaced, if available.

The air bleed holes in the tubes are in effect measure air 'leaks' to help the fuel disburse/atomize quicker as the fuel/air exits the tube. Cracks in the tube effectively shorten the funtioning length of the tube, which directly affects the fuel delivery rate of the carb.

Replace the tubes if available.

You risk damaging your engine if the fuel mixture gets too lean.

Agree with prior. Make sure it's propped right too. That engine needs to be able to turn 5500, with ease.

You can get carbs at Twin City Outboard. Good folks, nice to deal with.

Re: Do i have a carb problem?

Does anyone have any info on replacing the tubes. According to my half-baked manual the tubes cant be removed. New carbs are priced around 150, i guess they dont make them anymore. I dont want to spend that kind of money because it really isnt practical. I was thinking of using a low heat solder or braze of some sort and just plugging up the cracks, does anyone know about the metalurgy of the tubes, they look bronze/brassish. I wonder if a jewelry repair guy could just plug it on up for me. Any thoughts anyone?

As suggested, contact Twin City Outboards. They have a mountain of engines in the yard and will very likely have used carbs much cheaper than new.
