Re: do I have a resistor wire?

Okay, so my coil must be bad.

Any body know which coil I should use?

The last owner must have replaced the coil with wrong type. I repeated this by putting in the same one. The part that was in it was the 18-5433. this is external resistor type. I need internal.

You might take the coil to NAPA (parts store)
They might check it for you.
I don;t see why you can't put a resistor
in the 12v line.
NAPA will find the right one anyhoo
and they have great prices.
Best of luck

Are all wires off the + side? What ohm range on your meter were you using? I find it hard to believe that it was 0 ohms.

What does your service manual wiring diagram say about resistor or resistance wires?

Yes all wires were off the + side.

The cheap meter I have has only one range. When I got 0 ohms it was the same as when I touched the two leads of the meter together.

I did another measurement that may or may not be helpfull, I measured resistance between the positive side of the coil and the center tower. I got 10ohms.

I don't have an exact wiring diagram for my boat. The closest I can find does not show any resistors.
