I have a 14 foot jon boat with a 19 in. transom and a 1975 25hp. evinrude that measures 18 inches from the top of the mounting bracket to the cavitation plate. i think that is fine and should work.the motor runs and idles great. when i leave the dock it moves along ok when i start to give it more throttle the boat doesn't get moving with the speed it should it shouds like it's slipping. this is the first time i've tried this motor and i think i may have a spun prop. any thoughts would be greatly app.

Re: Do I have a spun prop?

you can mark the hub in 2 places and try it. Sounds like the motor could be too high.

:redface:I think first thing is to make sure your outboard shaft length is correct. Am not sure about your reference , "top of mounting bracket ".A picture of motor in down position on boat in thread or tell us we're cavitation plate is in reference to transom.

If you put it in gear and you can spin the prop by hand and it is easy to spin it's spun.

Re: Do I have a spun prop?

Usually spun props can't be rotated by hand in gear. Rear hub must be marked on 2 straight points, go for a wot spin, take prop fron shaft and check if marks have traveled, if so, you have a spun prop. Props must be tested at wot with load while pushing a boat, on a tank without load the marks won't travell a bit, besides will need to dry the water mess you have done while testing prop.

I have a 1974or 75 Evinrude 25 and it has a stainless pin
drive. That pin could be broke and it will move the boat at times, until the throttle opened, then it just spins. Make sure you didnt have the same issue I had. You must use a stainless pin as well, the brass pins cant take the HP.
