jerryh3, I just had to ask! I was at the ramp recently and a guy w a big lifted mud tired dodge dropped his long, steel, tandem small wheeled pontoon trailer off the end of the ramp. It was exciteing watching the big truck hop and jump back and forth w the wet mud tires and 4wd engaged. he finally got it to jump back on the ramp to cheers from the crowd! Not any real damage to the tough trailor. and badkin50 I ment a 1500 compared to a 25- 3500.

There is nothing to compare as that's a totally different class of rigs. Believe me if I could have afforded a 2500 or 3500 I would have went that route but then again I would have a much bigger boat to go with it too.

badkins50 Im no expert here, just wondering if a heavier truck can get more traction on a slippery ramp? I dont think so, but im no expert. I know a heavyier truck can pull a heavyer load up a dry ramp.

The carrying capacity of the truck(1500 vs 2500/3500) would have little to do with the traction. It's all about the coefficient of friction of the tires, the efficiency of the drive train to put the power to the ground, and the actual weight of the truck.

Wouldnt the coefficient of traction go up w a heavier truck w the same tires on a dry ramp?

The coefficient of friction(tire/road surface determines that) would stay the same but the heavier truck would create more downward force/traction. So, yes, a heavier truck "should" have more traction. I see your point now. I looked at Chevy's website and saw the 1000 pound difference in curb weight between the 1500 and the 2500. I didn't think it would have been so much.

I like Toyotas but hate the new FJs. I wouldnt tow anything near the limit w any 4wd vehicle because I'd be afraid of expensive damage to the transmission and TF case and theres the whole stopping thing. One exciting event will forever get your respect for size and weight of a tow vehicle thats not up to the load your dragging, If it doesnt kill you!
