I am looking to purchase my first boat and i have a line on a great deal for a robalo 23' cc. It is hull only. If i want to put 2 115hp motors on it, can i buy 2 different brand motors and them still work with each other.

Why buy two different brands if you need to buy engines?

Anyway, It is your boat and your money so you can do whatever you want.

However, it won't look slow or it won't look fast. It will look half-fast!

Besides, you then have the aggravation of mating two different control systems at the dash or helm. The engines may have different gearing requiring different props in which case it WILL probably run half-fast. Why complicate your life? Course, if you throw cubic money at it and let someone else do the work, it becomes easy.

But, I would not do it (It simply offends me aesthetically) and would not recommend it either

Or save a lot of grief and money by installing one 200, 225, or 250 HP motor. It will be faster than two 115's and a lot less maintenance.

^^^+1 I think you'd be looking for trouble if you put on 2 different brands. If money is the issue than go with one bigger motor.

Yes on do you have to match them. I saw a initial trial on a boat that didn't have them matched and the lazy one was a drag on the strong one. You have rpms, gear ratio's, prop dimensions and LU efficiency to consider between the two...lots of variables. Not a good idea to mix.

Don't forget you will probably need different cables instruments, etc. - - in other words a nightmare.

You get what you pay for in the boating world. Two different make/models of 115s hanging off the transom of a Robalo would be an insult to the boating community and it would look rediculous.

I agree with just getting one engine 200,225,250. The two 115s will be heavier weaker and double mainnence. If you want a back up motor get your self a 9.9/15hp kicker.

Not sure what part of the states you live in but I've called around here in the Houston area looking for 2000+ 200-225 low hour merc efi and most places quoted me 5500-6k with a warranty rigged and installed without a trade in.

Do you have to wear a matched pair of shoes? Probably not, but why put up with all the hassle and ridicule??

Aw heck, go for it and then wear two different types of boat shoes when you take it out. Everything will match,
