Re: Do I Keep It?

isnt there a boat that you park the jet ski in the back as the power plant then when you get where you are going you unclip the jet ski?

Yeah the ones I've seen are called shuttle crafts. I've even seen some homemade pontoon boats that have a jetski used as the power plant. Kind of neat but don't know how you'd haul that.

Welcome to the "boat club". I think most of us suffer this dilemma..............Fish like crazy in the spring, Leave the boat set thru June July and august and fish like crazy in late Sept. October into the first of November..............I think my fish are costing me about $5000.00 a pound now. LOL.................Wouldn't give it up for the world. The days when we do get out, there is nothing like it!

As a poster said above, do not part with your toys until you have replacements close at hand, it is better to have and not use as often as you like than to not have. I have had many seasons not riding my Fat Boy as often as I would have liked, but it's been there to use when I can. Now that I do have a boat, same will apply.

Well I took it out this weekend and definitely enjoy taking it out, I think a lot of the issue comes with I get tired of always taking 6 people and a dog. I'm ready for it to be cooler where there is less people at the lake so I can just go and float and relax. I really need to figure out how to store it at my house. I reall want to make a carport like structure but it would have to be as minimal as possible. Maybe something I'll work on this coming weekend.

Reading all of this makes me want to go hook up to my little tinny and go to the lake or river. :( But the is no water in the river right now. Oklahoma is going through a drought and I cant even get my little 14' in the river. Good luck with whatever you do, wish I had a pontoon I could afford and use. The lakes around here swamp my little boats, Every time I go out it seems like a rat crossing a river. all these giant 100 +++ horse power bass and ski boats and me out there with my 9.8 just cruising getting excelent fuel usage. BUT I have fun every time. Good luck to you in all your endevors. Almost sure I spelled that right not for sure though.

Re: Do I Keep It?

Got to thinking again on this and I still am leaning on trading hobbies, back to a jet ski. I think I'd get more use out of it cause I could take it to smaller lakes that are closer and this would be real easy to store in my 3rd garage.

Re: Do I Keep It?

I'm not ready to give up tooning, but I could really use a summer off from the hassle and expense. I'd love to sell the barge and concentrate on moving water for a year then get another barge in the winter/spring of 2014 if we really found that we wanted another one. However, my girls really don't want to go without a boat next summer (especially the admiral), so I won't be doing that. Regardless of how I feel, when I see them enjoying the boat it's worth the trouble, and my uncle admonished me one day to never pass up a chance to spend time with them on the water. So, have you had a heart to heart with the admiral and vice admiral(s)?

Yeah I've talked with her and she agrees that we didn't spend hardly anytime at the lake, and a lot of it has to do with the hassle. It's kind of taken the fun out of the lake. Sometimes we thought it might even be fun to just sit at the lake on the beach. Hobbies are supposed to be relaxing, and I just felt over the years I've upgraded and every time it's taken the fun out of it.

Well in that case I say sell it. This is the worst time of year to do that of course, but if you both still feel the same way in April pull the rip cord. You can always get another one in a year or two when your life settles down a little.

I know it's the worst time to sell, but I figure I don't have to sell it right now anyways. I've had a couple people interested that I've avoided because as much as it makes sense to sell it I'm still hesitant because it's in such good condition for it's age and hardly been used. Seems like it's always hard to find them this nice.

Well, if you have interested parties in hand that's a different matter. The fact that you're on the fence about selling actually plays to your strength. You might just inquire as to whether they're still interested and how serious they are.

Re: Do I Keep It?

One guy has been pretty persistent cause I put it for trade only and he wants to just buy it outright. Every few days he will try to get a hold of me and ask if I would consider a cash offer. At one point he said well can I just come look at it in case you change your mind. I told him no thanks. At this point I think he wants it cause I won't let him have it more than he just wants it.

Psychology is definitely a major factor when it comes to buying and selling things. That's why I mentioned that your ambivalence plays to your strength.

Sell it to the guy who wants it BAD and have him pay top dollar. Then turn around and buy a smaller runabout that will be less hassle AND another jet ski. Now you have your parents jet ski, your jet ski, and a small runabout that you can get to the island with, or just cruise around and will be less of a hassle to tow, prep, etc. Just thinking out loud.

Arturro, you have what I really want, but the admiral likes a barge. She wants a high and dry ride and room for lots of peeps.

I've thought about this but will probably just stick with a ski if I go that route. A lot of the reason why I didn't use the boat, besides the lakes being so low and riddled with blue-green algae, is that I am finishing up my masters during the summer and gone for 2 week periods. I will be gone again next summer, so I will run into the same problem. Having a ski would give me something to play with and then after next year if I want a boat, I could always get a 17ft runabout or something.

I agree it's better to have it and not need it that to need it and not have it.

I agree with this to a point, but storing something that you don't really use, especially when you have to store it elsewhere also adds an expense. I feel that I can better justify a jet ski I can store in my garage that costs a fraction to begin with. I also wouldn't mind maybe a small aluminum boat, but I'm not really sure what exactly I would want. Would have to be small enough to fit in a single car garage.
