The motor I have a 50hp force is on a 79 ranger bass boat, theres a rod that goes through some holes that hold the motor up, and under neath is a bent clip looking thing that looks like it is suppose to hold the motor in place is says engage, disengage I think. The motor is heavy as heck, and I don't think i could raise it up if i go in shallow spots, what is tilt and trim? I should know this but haven't got a clear idea as to what it is, and if I need it on this fiberglass bass boat. I would appreciate any advice

What you are describing is the reverse lock. when engaged, it keeps the engine from popping out of the water when you either rapidly slow down from planing or when you put the engine in reverse.

Do you NEED power trim? That depends on you. Do you WANT it? Power tilt and trim is a handy upgrade, but expensive; about 3-400 used, likewise for an aftermarket CMC unit. However, once you have had an engine with power t/t, you will never want to be without it.

I use to lift my 85 manually, what a nightmare. It helps even the boat out when your moving and makes life alot easier at the launch.Well worth the 600$ i paid.Just try to get the exact one for your motor.Everything will fit right in.
