Not at all, just find a good "boat" you like, manufacture makes little or no difference.

Give me a break! So Intrepid, Gradywhite, Boston Whaler, Blackfin, are no "different" than Bayliner? Even my wife & daughters know better than to make a statement like this.

Re: Do I need to avoid Bayliners?

Nothing wrong with bayliners. They are entry level and many are not maintained well. They have a lower quality of finish and accessories. They are lower priced for this very reason. I own a bayliner bowrider and a searay cruiser. I am happy with both boats. Both of my boats are well maintained and I have no real issues with either. All boats have maintenance issues. Find a boat in good condition at a price you are happy with and get out on the water.

Guess I'll jump in, here!

I have several boats...and one of them is a 2005 Bayliner 175BR.

It has given me great service, and I consider the wiring job to be top notch. I have no issues with the quality of the boat proper...and the powerplant (3.0L) has never let me down.

I can't speak for the Bayliners of older vintage...my understanding is that they were not the same quality, before Brunswick took over. Maybe any potential buyer of a Bayliner should consider the year of the build....

Come on folks!

Your making me feel like I bought an Edsel! :D

Frankly I think my Bayliner kicks butt for my first boat... I did modify it massively. I did notice lower quality finish work along the way. ( It ain't no Cobalt ) But I'm in the water... I think the boat has wonderful lines... Makes my heat pitter patter when I see her! :p Sometimes I feel like I'm riding in an old truck hanging on for dear life ! ( only sometimes  ) But I love it! Will I upgrade someday? Yes!!!!! Could that next boat be a Bayliner? I not sure? But Maybe? Maybe it's and old Starcraft! Maybe a 4 year old 210 Cobalt with 5.7L Mag duoprop? :D I'm not sure? Important fact is just find a good solid boat, and have fun!

Re: Do I need to avoid Bayliners?

Somebody said it best the last time this topic came up. When was that, hmmmmmm, oh yeah, yesterday . . . :D

Bayliner's are entry level boats. A lot of them are bought new by people that have no clue and also do not develop the passion to obtain a clue.

hmmm, Wait a minute?!?!?!?! I think I've been insulted..LOL LOL. I am a very much newbie, I love boating and learned alot, oh and I OWN A BAYLINER!!!!!

Mine has been great, but I will say, I budget lots of money to keep her in great shape. So in my minnow/cadet/pleeb opinion, if it well maintained no matter the brand it will serve you well.

There, now I sit at my laptop wearing flame retardant boxers.

Re: Do I need to avoid Bayliners?

My first boat was a96 VIP with a 3.0l. It was an awesome boat but the interior was getting kinda rough. I wanted more power. I got greedy and wanted a new boat. I bought a 2004 Bayliner 18 ft open bow with a 4.3. At that time I looked at a lot of boats. I wanted a sea ray but they were about 8000 more for the same version as the bayliner. Sitting in the bayliner vs the sea ray was like night and day you definietly tell the sea ray was a much better boat. But i went with the bayliner. It was a terrible boat the cushion were cheap it didnt ride good, the older VIP boat I had was a way better boat. Now i have Sea Ray that I got used. You get what you pay for. As far as the engines go a mercruiser is a mercruiser wether its in a bayliner or a 4winns. The force outboards on the older bayliners are junk. I guess its all in what you want. If you can get a good deal on a bayliner then go ahead, just remember it like the differnece between a hyundai accent and a Lexus they will both take you down the road but which would you rather be riding in??

Re: Do I need to avoid Bayliners?

You need to avoid a poorly maintained used boat...period. If you are a newbie you need help making the purchase decision. Buying a good boat you can afford is better than buying the big name boat with a thick payment book. Don't count out all Bayliners. I've seen some really crappy Searays and ChrisCrafts too. Its about the upkeep on the used stuff, plain and simple.
