Expidia,

Your comments jared my memory about that story I mentioned about losing that brand new 25HP yamaha! I did read the manual before I brought it out the first time (the time it was lost) and I do remember it saying that clamping the engine would not be sufficient.

Then: self I says...if it came with clamps, I can at least run it once with the clamps and bolt it later...:D Not so much!

On the flip side, I did have a 7.5 O/B that was about 98 years old, and I never clamped it on, granted you could out swim that O/B

So how is bolting your motor on more secure? I can turn four bolts on a 9.9hp motor much quieter than I can Dremmel off a lock bar.

Here is what I've gathered from this thread:

1) Bolting is less theft-proof than clamps and a lock.
2) Bolting may keep the motor on more securely if you use lock washers, but if not, those nuts can screw off a bolt just as easily as a clamp can unscrew itself.
3) It's mostly a personal preference.
I would have to agree with number 3. Sorry I gave the impression I was promoting one or the other. Just sharing my experience with cutting one off. Won't happen again.:D
