Do I need to charge a new marine deep cycle battery?

Did some searching on the forum, but haven't found a clear answer. I have found to let it go and just install it, but also to either "run it down" and then charge it at 2amps or just throw it on 2amps and check with a meter for approximately 12.87 eventually and then stop charging it. Thanks!!

12.5 volts or a bit more is fully charged or very close to it. Some batterys will go to 12.8. Just depends on the battery.

I don't know of any way to monitor battery voltage while charging to determine when the battery is fully charged. If you don't already have one, buy yourself a smart charger with an max output of between 5 and 15 amps. Charge the new battery for at least 24 hours.

If the battery is your cranking battery and it will start your engine, you could get by with just installing it if you run the engine a lot.

There would be no benefit to running it down then recharging before use.
