Do I need to do anything special when I replace my seals? Do I pack them or rub them in oil?

Re: Do I Pack Seals With Grease?

You are supposed to pack grease inbetween seals(prop shaft seal has 2 seals facing opposite directions. One way seals oil in and the other water out. Same with the input shaft seal.) I used NBU-5 grease on mine. It's highly resistant to petroleum products as well as water. I have no idea where to find it locally. I get it from work. be sure to lube your o-rings very well. I believe the manual says to use GSC compund on the gaskets and o-rings.

I forgot something. Where the metal parts rub on the seal is usually pitted slightly and worn or even grooved from use. You will want to lightly sand that area with some fine emery paper or a scotch brite pad. This will ensure a good seal.
