While I'm waiting on my epoxy to dry for my floor on my Islander. I decided I'd change the ratty looking clamps and lines for my water seperator, that's screwed to the transom. Low and behold, it's rotted right behind the unit, about a 6"x8" spot.

Why, oh why, oh why, do people use non stainless or aluminum hardware, and then, NO SEALER???
Anything screwed into, around, near, needs to be sealed!!!

I'm going to dig this out, let it dry, and patch it with 2 part epoxy adhesive, with some cloth. Then, go over the top with a larger piece, glued into place, then thru the hull to bind everything together.

Although it's just a small area, the integrity of an otherwise perfect transom is in question. So now, I'll be replacing it within the next year.

The point of my rant (and thanks for letting me vent) is to DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME! A little overkill only costs a few bucks; a few extra minutes, and saves heartache in the end.

Can we add an "instant gremlin" for temper tantrums? I really need to have one right about now...

Ah, I feel much better now.
Rick K
