Do not pump water - Mercury outboard motor

Friends,

Do you know why mercury outboard motor does not pump out water? I can feel air was pushed out from the hole but not water while engine was running. I flushed it with water from output hole and it seemed it is not plugged. Thanks for your answer in advance.

Probably it is time to install a new water pump. We could help you out a little better if we knew what particular mercury motor you have. Also, one of the mods could maybe move this into the mercury outboards section?

Thanks for quick reply. I wonder if I need to install a new water pump it still pumping air out now. How much a water pump roughly cost?

Not to be glib, if you do not fix your issue, it will cost you at least $500/cylinder for a repair. Waterpump kits are less than $50.

Well----What motor do you have ??????----A 2 HP or 450 HP ?---Serial # is ?

FYI, impellers are cheep. You can get a kit with seals and gaskets included. Its a DIY job in your driveway and should be done every 5 years or so. There are lots of youtube videos on it . The hole you speak of is called a tale as it tells you if the pump is working or not, in your case it's a not. My advice is change it regardless and its one less thing you have to worry about.
