Do over the range microwaves use standard hardware?

Our over the range microwave just died. Really sucks because it was only 4 years old. It's a GE and I was wondering if I bought a Hotpoint or something like that if I could just pop it in using the existing plate that's mounted to the wall? I'm assuming the screw holes in the cabinet will be standard.

Did you check to see if it's not just a fuse? I can't say for sure, but as you probably know the GE/Hotpoint are the same thing, so it'll prob fit. I had a GE for yrs was fine, but I prefer Whirlpool

Mine went out yesterday as well. Sears has a sale on microwaves thru Thursday.

I would have no idea how to troubleshoot it. It was running and all of a sudden started making a different pitch hum and is no longer heating. I didn't know Hotpoint and GE were the same thing but Best Buy has one listed as GE-Hotpoint so I kinda got the clue there. Best Buy has one that is comporable to one at Sears and beat their price by $40. This didn't happen at a great time so I don't really have the money to be choosy. I'm basically going to buy the cheapest one I can that will do the job.

Installation of these zappers is pretty easy, even if the old bracket doesn't fit the new one, if you're at all handy you won't have any problems.
Just be sure you get the required amount of anchors into studs and you will be A-OK. All the instructions I've seen are very specific on this and easy to understand. ( I've installed dozens of them).
One thing to be carefull of is that many two story houses stack the bathrooms and kitchens for plumbing expediency, so watch out for plumbing in the wall (screws, drilling test holes etc.)if you are in a 2 story.

It may say GE or Hotpoint on the outside. But I bet most of the parts say Samsungon the inside. I just replaced the magnitron on my 1 yr old GE over the stove unit. It had less than 1 hour of run time, just popcorn. I was told that the magnitron was guarantied for 10 yrs just pay $350 for the service charge. I asked how much for just the part to install myself and was told $161 plus shipping. I said I'd get back to them. I called my local appliance parts store and got a non OEM magnitron for $60 out the door. Approx 1 hour of install time and it's good as new. I saved myself almost $300 doing it myself. And I didn't have to wait around all day for the service man to come.

Best Buy didn't have the Hotpoint unit in stock when I went in. So I picked up a Goldstar for the same price. Turns out the wall plate is standard which was nice but the CABINET BOLT LOCATIONAS WERE LIKE 3 INCHES FORWARD!! Ugh what a pain. They were practically too far forward to be in my cabinet. Total BS because I have a new house with basic standard cabinets. Also, if it wasn't already installed, and I wasn't so lazy, and it wasn't so cheap, I would definitely be returning this Goldstar unit. It is the most low quality POS appliance I've seen in a long time. Door doesn't line up well, there were only 2 bolt holes in the top for mounting and when I tighten up the bolts, even though I did it evenly, the top warped a bunch. And it has a nice vibration when running. Junk. At least it warms up my son's food.

My parents got a Goldstar right after they got married. It lasted almost 20 years...
