Do Smart Tabs Really Work?

I just got a 19' Wellcraft CC w/ '96112 SPL. The motor has one of those Sea Ray deals on it. I read in an earlier post that basically those Sea Ray things suck. So do the Smart Tabs work better, how do they work, I'm always a little skeptical of something that "automatically changes" according to water conditions.

In one word YES!

They are everything they promise to be.

They work by pressing against a gas filled shock. They start out in the down position which forces the bow down helping youto plane faster. The more water pressure that is applied to them the more they rise into the upper positions so as you pick up speed and plane out they are forced up reducing drag. When you turn one side of theboat is going faster than the other side so they adjust up or down and assist in the turn.

this belongs in the boat topics & questions, not J/E repair.

Yes the work, get that horrible thing off your motor. Yes they are guaranteed. search smart tabs, in the iboats marine store at the top of the page. there are different sizes for different boats.

They are especially helpful on stern-heavy boats (such as I/Os) and any boat that has a tendency to porpoise, or has trouble getting out of the hole. I have them on my Alumacraft Navigator and would hurt someone real bad if they tried to make off with them. I have used whale tails and in my view they are worthless in comparison.
