do the gears need greese please help?

hi,<br /> I have a mercury 4.5 horsepower. It is a 1995 motor #4108772. i need to know if i need to check or chance the greese in the gears? and if possible any winterization tips would be helpful thanks'<br /><br /> Andy

trollinsouth,<br /><br />Yes, your gearcase needs to be serviced.<br /><br />Buy the appropriate fill/drain plug gaskets/seals and gear lube. Replace as according to the manual.<br /><br />Hint, you fill from the bottom drain plug hole.<br /><br />1. Remove both plugs.<br /><br />2. Replace the seals on them, while the lube is draining.<br /><br />3. Fill with new fluid from the bottom until it runs out the top hole.<br /><br />4. Install the top plug.<br /><br />5.
