I have a 2003 Chaparral 183. Two years ago we put a stingray on to help keep the bow down when we pulled my son (then 4) on a tube. Last year while cruising on the Sacramento River we hit a log that was about six inches under water. It ripped the hydrofoil off. I went a couple of weeks without the hydrofoil and noticed a huge difference. I put another on. It seems to plane faster and improves the lateral stabalization.<br />Just my opinion.

They only work if you use synthetic oil. If you use dino oil, you'd be better off with Smart tabs. ;)

I had a foil on my o/b for a while. It did help get boat on plane at low speed, but was not good at top speed. I took it off and ended up with better all around performance by taking the time to set the motor trim pin properly. Trimming in brought the front down, got on plane quicker, and higher top speed due to reduced porposing.
