Just wondering why so many people who list their outboards for sale on Craigslist always mislead buyers when posting their ads they are so far off in the manufacture date of the motor?? I'm on CL 7days a week looking to buy outboards that need alittle work. I don't get rich but now that I'm retired it gives me something to do and sometimes get lucky and buy a nice motor for a cheap price.

In my serach i come across alot of different brands and years and alot of people list their motor saying "From the 90's" when in fact by looking in the pics its from the 70's.

I wonder do these people know what yrs. its from but still list it that way to sell it or are they just plain dumb and throw a year out??

Or even better, Ran great 20 years ago, been in storage since then, should need nothing...

Just seen a boat ad about a week ago.

Boat and motor ran great 14 years ago when we parked it next to the shed. Just hose it down and you'll have a great summer.....Umm yup, 14 years of animals, snow and rain. I'm sure it's just a turn key boats. :)

Best bet is to shop "inland" away from the salt water. Outboards that are historically fresh water run are "usually" in better shape to work on. So......it may involve a road trip but.....they are fun.
