Do you name your small boat?

We've recently purchased an 18' Monterey, and of course everyone asks what are we going to name it? Isn't there an unspoken rule that you can't name a small boat? lol..i mean where exactly on an 18' boat would you put the name when there is essentially no transom space big enough..on the side of the boat? etc? Do people still name their boat even though they are smaller boats? If so, where do they put the name (if they do)? thanks!

At Lake of the Ozarks last year I saw a 12 foot aluminum boat named the "Cigarette Butt" The name was on the side. I personally have never named any of my small boats but obviously some people do. I say go for it.

I name all of my boats, and other vehicles, too.

Some get their name displayed, others don't.

I get a strong personal attachment and it seems indifferent to speak about "my tractor" as opposed to "Big Orange".

Even my Boston Whaler Tender 11' was named "WeeBit".

Every vessel should have a name. My 12' tinny "The Loon" has been proudly sporting her name for thirty+ years. I agree, go for it. Putting the name on the side is fine, tastefully done of course:)

Re: Do you name your small boat?

Choose a small name for a small boat.

My small boats all came with names: lowe, whaler, key west, sea hunt. I give them other names when they aren't working but it's best not to display those names on the hull.

Remember it's bad luck to change the name of a boat. So like tattoo's, you don't want to name it after someone who might not work out.

So says a guy whose name is displayed with mailbox letters :p

LOL...:D I do plan on replacing those this spring after I get my new vinyl AeroCraft decals for the little rig:)

They've been on there so long it's emotionally tough for me to take them off but it's about time;)

I did.
Some of the elitists give me a smirk or an eye-roll, but I think it's fun.

I have and haven't. Some of My first boats were named the last two have not been named. All of my previous boats were under 20 ft. Now that I have a 21 footer, I have thought about naming it but haven't come up a good one yet.

My wife thinks we should name ours. 'Small' is in the eye of the beholder...this 18 fter is by far the biggest boat I've ever owned, for example.

We're thinking of naming our boat 'Bonus', because...well, that's where it came from. ;)

Absolutley you can name the smaller boats. They desrerve the same respect that the Queen elizabeth does. After all they do the same thing...Float.

I have named every boat/vehichle/atv/bike I have ever had. Heck I have even been known to name stereo equipment:D

I know alot of people that name their boat and dont display the names. I for one think they deserve to have the lettering on them so the boat can sit next to its friends and discuss their names just like we do.

There are no small boats, only small boat owners.:D

My bowrider has a name, but my Crawdad doesn't. I may have to remedy that.
