Lowrance LMS 520c. It was a dealer installed option.

I resisted the idea of buying a boat for decades, partly because I couldn't afford it at the time (but that doesn't stop a lot of people), and partly because of the stories I'd hear from boat owner coworkers who shredded their props or had engine problems the previous weekend.

The GPS/sonar combo is one of the reasons I finally decided to take the plunge last year. With the LakeMaster chip installed, we can see where the rocks are before the rocks see us! Other encouragement came from the increased reliability of motors, better decking material, construction with closer tolerances, and better warranties.

Of course, all of these improvements came at an increased cost, too!

Re: Do you own a marine gps?

Leaning towards the Garmin 430s at Cabelas. Anyone have any feedback on it? I have a Garmin 430c in my van and love it! My daughter named it "Wanda"

Your car unit is in no way related to the 430s. But, the 430s is very nice, and includes detailed mapping for inland lakes. If you use it primarily on the Great Lakes you should get the 440s because it has BlueChart mapping (includes the Great Lakes) instead of inland lakes mapping. The 530s and 540s are the same unit, but with a 5 inch screen. All very nice! I have their predecessor, the 398, and I love it.
