Have owned wood, glass and aluminum. What works best is the decision of the owner and the intended purpose of the boat. If your boat must tolerate an occasional hit on a rock or stump you would probably select a tin boat. Dents can be pulled or pounded out. Glass must be repaired. If you like a sexy looking boat on which to display the other good looking things in your life you would likely prefer a glass boat. A wood boat is far qjuieter than either of the other two so if you really like the feel of a quality boat with a quiet ride and have an unlimited amount of time for maintenance, then a wood boat is for you. So you see, the answer is -- "It depends"

are you kidding.......me own a tinny?....tinny owners are cheaters......(this includes starcraft owners):eek::D

you aren't really a boat owner till you have had to replace the wood stringers/ transom and foam in a glass boat.
you have to actually lay in the bare fiberglass hull grinding with short sleeves and pants to really appreceate boats.:D

ok guys....i fired the first shot......go for it....lol

Re: Do you own an alunium or fiberglass boat?

I had an old glass over wood cabin cruiser in California, how do I vote on that one?

I had a POS Inca glass boat, was very very heavy, oh, maybe that was the 800 lbs of rotten wet wood in the deck and transom! Sold it and went straight to tin!

I have 2 tin boats now, the 18 ft STARCRAFT and a 14 foot Lonestar...

The only ITCHING I did on my Starcraft restore was ITCHING to get on the water! :D

And Oops...you are just mad cause you can't weld fiberglass for an extended hull...lol...

I love you guys' rhetoric.

I haven't owned my 16' Starcraft fiberglass long enough to make an input in the 'arguing' ;) (j/k).

Heck, I don't even know what model mine is, yet. :(

I have 3 Aluminum boats. Two are jon boats so they don't count. The third is a Starcraft that I kinda inherited from my brother ($2,500.00 7 years ago). I would never have considered an aluminum boat before owning this Starcraft and at first I did not even use it. It was a pleasure craft with dual consoles and fold down seats - not good for fishing. Now that I have gutted the carpet and put in new decks and a center console I really like the it. Several people have asked if I would sell the boat and I almost did but after this past season I'm going to keep it. She is dry, no rust, no rot, and lite enough for one person to trailer and launch.

Been there, done that. Only thing, I was stupid enough to do it twice.

I've got a smaller aluminum boat also - in the back of my mind I think I'm trying to figure out how I can incorporate some glass layups into it also.

I've had one fiberglass boat, and I'm presently on my third wooden boat. I like the looks it gets and the talk it generates at the boat ramp, but I gotta tell you, I wish I could spring for about a 26' fiberglass, cuddy, twin OBs, hardtop... Wait a minute. Sorry, got carried away there boys.

Re: Do you own an alumium or fiberglass boat?

I've had wood, glass and aluminum. I mostly prefer aluminum for the weight savings. It takes less hp and their easier to launch and load. While I have an equal number of both glass and aluminum right now, I limit my glass boats to those that don't need a lot of work. I've done a a dozen or so transom jobs and a few stringer and deck replacements and strongly prefer bucking rivets and welding to itching all day.

I have an aluminum boat because I dont have time to mess with grinding and fixing rotton wood and getting messy. I prefer to have the boat in the water.

Being an aluminum welder I obviously went with aluminum, even as fun and aromatic as glass is.

I river fish and am sure I would have sunk a glass boat by now where the aluminum just gets dinged.
