im getting ready to buy a 4 door wrangler and that is one of the new fangled things they put on it for people that really shouldnt be driving let alone driving a jeep, from what I could gather once you put it in gear you have to wait 2 seconds before it will let you go, im sure theres some wire you can snip that will make your rig normal and not made for dummies

New fangled things? When I was a kid, my dad had an old Ford with a Hill Holder option, it was a button you stepped on that locked the front brakes so the car wouldn't drift back on a steep hill. It was so you didn't have to hold the brake and the clutch for ever while waiting for a light on a hill. (Similar to a line lock but fully mechanical in that it went between the master cylinder and the wheel cylinders or front brake circuit as a whole. Stepping on the button would hold the brake pressure on the front brakes while you loaded the clutch and got rolling. A tap on the brake pedal would release it.

I may even still have one around here somewhere. It was nothing but a hydraulic valve that went in line.

I suppose that a new vehicle could do the same thing via the antilock brake module and pump. In certain instances, it may not be a bad idea when on steep ramps if it wasn't a nuisance to use. I think Studebaker was the first to come out with it but many models back then had it from what I recall. I do remember him still owning a car with it when I first started to drive.

Yeah I see nothing wrong with hill start assist at all. More so for Jeeps that are actually taken offroad. If youve ever had a stick off road then you would understand how that would be useful.

There may even be a button to turn it off. Reading the owners manual usually tells you how things like that work. ;)

Hey , I read the manual, it doesn;t say it should hold it back, says it will hold until a certain amount of throttle, thats a lot of throttle in my opinion from my experience, it also says put in tow /haul for more brake pressure it will figure your towing a trailer and truck must be at a 7 degree angle or better. I pushed throttle and truck started to squat, took out of gear and back in it started to roll back, then i pulled her out, took much break in my opinion, but, o well, thot someone here had a system down, Thanks for the comments, Tim

Didn't Subaru come out with that in the late 70's? Im pretty sure my Suby POS had a hill holder clutch on it in high school.

As for yours, the dealer or the manual is the best bet.
