I have a 66 Scott/McCulloch 14 hp and am thinking of putting a set of doel fins on. My questions are
1 it seems that there is not alot of plate too bolt the fins too caan I shave a little of the fins too match the motor?
2 Will the doel fins work?
I have it mounted on a 14' v-bottom
Thanks

Re: Doel fins and Scott/McCulloch

I'm having trouble getting it too plane. I have my battry under the front seat. My 6gal fuel tank is under the middle seat. Ithe motor will only run around 3200 too 3400 rpm at full. I think if I can get it on plane it will run at full rpm's 4800too5400. I have tried different tilt settings 2nd,3rd,and 4th settings
Thanks

Unless you are a real brute that motor should plane easily.
I had a friend with one he used on rental boats He loved it and never complained of difficulty planing. He weighs 320 lbs. and usually fished with his 200 lb brother.
A great motor developes its power at 5,000.500 higher than E/J from 16 cubic inches, E/J 15 is 20 cubes,18, 22 The S/M is probably lighter than both.
Parts can be an adventure but they are out there.

I think you have motor issues rather than a planing issue. A 14hp Scott ought to pick up a 14-footer without issue. Get the motor running right before trying to add a band-aid fix...
Check compression, check spark...
