Does 40hp 4stroke EFI have a rev limiter

Hi there. A neighbor with a Merc 40hp 4 stroke EFI is having trouble getting his boat to plane. It takes too long.

We're going to try different props.

He doesn't have a tach and I don't want to over rev it.

Does this motor have a rev limiter. I'm assuming it should as it's EFI but don't want to take any chances.

Great question that I never thought of asking...mine is a 2006/2007 model...I was taking it easy on my motor so I would not over rev it. After reading this it could be WOT for me!


There is also a tilt adjustment that can be done on non- power tilt/trim units
I also find that goosing the engine then backing off at the right time gets it on plane quicker than slowly accellerating.

How much weight is the engine pushing

Yeah....it is super hot here in Ontario too. Dry too.

Just got the specs thanks to Fun Ti.
According to the specs it has Spark/Fuel cut-out on cylinder no. 2 at 6225 rpm
