does a Johnson 112SPL have a fuel restriction alarm?

I'm trying to determine whether the alarm (sounds like a bosun's whistle) I hear after 3/4 throttle for perhaps a minute is because I switched fuel hoses to one that has an in-line fuel filter or because the engine is overheating. The first year I had it, I think it went into SLOW mode (no alarm) fairly often because I am new to boating and didn't know that the problem was because the carbuerators needed cleaning. This is the only time I have heard the alarm in 3 years of operating this engine, and it has happened each of the three times I have run the boat after switching fuel hoses.

I now have a mechanic who got my engine going correctly last year and who will be working on my engine once I haul out, but I don't know whether I can motor to the haulout (about a mile away from my mooring) or should just get towed there.

Info on the SPL's is a little confusing, and I haven't found very much information about them (I think mine is a '96) besides their being stripped-down versions of more expensive models. Is there anywhere online I can get more information about my engine?

Thanks for any info!

I am assuming you mean the vacuum switch. No. A 112 was a 115 with some of the options deleted. It had option deletes to reduce the initial cost to the consumer. As such, the 112 had a simple old sytle (premix) type fuel pump. The fuel restriction alarm is usually on the V6 engines with the VRO pumps.

The alarm is probably from overheating. Check the waterpump, thermostats, and water passage deflectors, in that order.

The parts manuals are online at the following link: http://shop.evinrude.com/
