TDC means just that, the piston is at the very top of its stroke and timing is "0". considering the timing mark moves CCW it gets hard to see the total advance. With the harmonic balancer mark set to the 0 position, measure the distance from the 0 to the 5 or 10 degree notch and transfer that measurement to the right side of the harmonic balancer line.paint white dots. this way when you advance the throttle the dots are viewable .Once the static timing is set eg. 6 deg,and you raise the rpm to max advance the second dot for example is at the 0 mark ,you have 26 degrees total advance.a dot say every 5 degrees woould allow you to see the total advance of the ignition without guessing.
