Roscoe, thanks!<br /><br />BTW, I just ordered a clymer's manual for it...I'm not sure how long it takes to ship, but it's ordered...that will help somewhat.<br /><br />I plan to yank my old engine off tomorrow, and I'll go from there with the new one..<br /><br />Shawn

BTW, I'm pretty sure that the tilt should work. There is grease in all of the greaseable areas, and all of the hydraulic components, including the ram that pushes the engine up, appear to be clean (Which means they haven't been sitting too long, or else they'd be dirty/corroded).<br /><br />That means they must have been working. And, the guy I bought it from said they worked, and he's a pretty reputable guy.<br /><br />THanks though, I'll keep you posted.<br /><br />If anyone has any ideas, Let me know!<br />Shawn

Ok, here we go, on the starbord side of the powerhead, there will be a black cover aft of the starter motor. Remove the 5 phillips head screws and the cover and youll see two small solenoids. With battery cables hooked up to a hot battery, use a jumper wire to jump 12v to the small wire on the solenoid with the heavier blue wire going to it. This will tilt the motor "up". If this is a bit confusing, heres an altenitive- With battery cables hooked up to the motor, breakout the automotive jumper cables, hook to same battery, ground the other end to engine block, and positive end to heavy blue wire on solenoid. This will do the same thing but just makes more sparks! And if ya still wanna know nissan color codes, here ya are. Trim and tilt low ampreage side- pink=down and blue= up also at the trim switch in control box is a red wire, this powers the switch. Lemme know if any of this helps, ill be checkin in. Good luck!!!

Saltydog,<br /><br />Thanks for the info! I kind of understang what you're saying...I think.<br /><br />Basically...Hook up the battery cables. Then, remove the plastic cover, and on the tilt solenoid, use a jumper wire to jump 12v from one side to the other? The blue side to the pink side?<br /><br />You kind of lost me in this area:<br />"jump 12v to the small wire on the solenoid with the heavier blue wire going to it."<br /><br />I'm sure once I see the wiring/solenoid, I'll recognize what you're saying...<br /><br />I wont be able to mess with it until tomorrow, but I'll be sure to post up what I find out! Check back tomorrow.<br /><br />Thanks again<br /><br />Shawn

No, 12v to the small wire on the up solenoid. It will have a fat blue wire going to one of the larger posts but you wanna jump to the smaller blue wire, otherwise your jumper lead is goona get pretty hot. It will work, jumping to the larger blue post, but be careful not to burn your fingers. If ya have poblems finding the smaller wire, use jumper cables and jump to the larger blue post. Jumper cables wont get hot but be careful not to weld the nut onto the solenoid cuz now your jumping out the high ampreage side... oh yeah, easy way to remeber the low amp color code for trim and tilt--- pink-pus*y-down blue-eyes-up. Good luck!

Re: Does a 'tilt tube' have anything to do with steering?

Salty Dog,<br /><br />I didn't get a chance to try the tilt/trim today...but I did get a chance to glance at the engine and what wiring work I will have to do to get it running.<br /><br />There are 4 wires that are cleanly cut off on the side OPPOSITE of the starter (port?), on the same side as the ignition coils. They are just behind the coils. Here is a pic, any idea what they are for? :<br />
cutwires.jpg
<br /><br />I am not sure what they go to, so I wont know where to connect them when I install the engine. Every other wire has a male/female connector on it, so that will be simple. These are the only ones I see that look like they may give me trouble. If you dont recognize them, no big deal, I should be receiving my clymer manual any day...<br /><br />Thanks!<br />Shawn

It does, doesn't it?<br /><br />It appears to be factory though...there is a shrink wrapped black piece just under that black cover (you can't see it in the pic)...<br /><br />I wonder what it's for?<br /><br />Shawn

Those trailer harnesses come with that Black plastic coating. Maybe somebody tried to make a shortcut to charge the Battery through the starter cable in the Motor compartment, using the tow vehicle to do the charging. Huumm!

never heard of that!<br />Also, the starter is on the other side of the motor...so I dont think it is tied into that wiring. I'll pull that cover off tomorrow and see if I can find anything out.<br /><br />Could it be gauges? Possibly?<br /><br />Shawn
