Does alarm work?

I recently purchased a 1993 60hp Merc. When I turn the key on I don't get a test beep. I am concerned that maybe the warning system does not work and I will ruin the engine if it overheats or the oil pump quits working.<br /><br />How can I test it to make sure it is working?<br /><br />Thanks for your help<br />bill

On the engine unplug the tan wire at the temp sender and ground it you should get a horn with the key on and then unplug the 2 wires to the oil tank (blue I think) jump them together and you should get a pulseing horn
