Does anybody make fiberglass consoles?

I am continuing restoration of my 1961 Lone Star. The helm console, which is bolted to the cuddy bulkhead, is full of holes and just plain ratty inside. Is it possible to find a replacement nowadays or am I stuck doing fiberglass repair on this one? I'm not looking for something exact, just close, and it could be longer and that would be OK.

Why not just glass over that one and punch new holes in it?

Todd makes plastic type consoles, they sell them in the West Marine catalouge i have one in my boat i like it! Its that same stuff that the white plastic boad is that you can use instead of wood on a boat.

I am trying to avoid doing even more work than I already have. Transom repair, partial floor repair and paint...all before I can start putting her back together. Oh yes, and motor tune-up. I'll repair the console I have, if I have to, but I would prefer new. I'm not going for strict originality here, no concours restoration.

I have looked at Todd but they are all center console, which is not going to work. I have a bulkhead that the console bolts to. The back is open and has to accept the steering gear -- an old Teleflex Big-T unit. It's not the original steering setup and kind of overkill for a 17 footer with a 110 Hp Merc, but it will be OK with a new cable.

Many people just clean up and paint the console or helm and use a plastic face plate to cover all the old holes and mount new gauges in. This option can give you the opportuntity to customize the look for very little cost and you don't have to try and make a generic console fit.

I used this method by using 1/4" plexiglass. I painted the back side of it (after drilling new holes for gauges) so the paint wouldn't get scratched. Worked well.
