You should add in how to achieve 6 MPG with anything running a 300XS and get back to us ;)

In God we trust, all others show us your data :p

You took the bait! So, whatya want... double-blind studies with control groups or a squat load of anecdotal evidence? :D

I think there is a Boat Test mag review or Boating Review on this somewhere.... if I could only find it...

I did!

But now it's also Alumacraft time, and all the freakin' garbage that comes with getting grown men fishing. All week! It's all week with these people (family, in-laws, etc). OMG... can we just fish and enjoy? God, we hook it up and launch it. Have some fishing stuff with ya. Good grief.

Jeeze, with this Gulp bait, you need zero planning and a dolt-level IQ and you'll catch fish. I call them all "Mighty Fisherman". Hours and hours and hours of blah blah blah and going here to get this color blah blah blah, and we have to bring this, and ...omg, I am going to kill someone...

:) Just venting.

Phil....this is your doctor.....I prescribe another boating trip for tomorrow.....nothing strenuous......reeeeeeellllaaaaxxxxx:D

Some people are serious about fishing - it is part primal, competetive, mysterious. If you don't have the bug - I don't know why. For me it was instant addiction. I would skip school, go to the river, and sometimes fish wet, and cold *** long as I could - staying out on the rocks after the tide would come up so I would have to kick a little to get back - after dark, many times. Now, my rule on my boat is fish hard, and don't complain. I try to enjoy the peripheral while I'm fishing, but I really don't want any of that encroaching on my mission. Thats it - when I'm fishing, I'm on a mission -dude!

To each their own. Give me anything on the water -- including fishing.

Just shut the hell up and let's go! :D And don't act like a little girl when we get some. :p

Fishing is what made me who I am, a solitary creature of the wilderness. There were years of my youth that my success at bringing home fish. . .or squirrels or rabbits. . .meant my family had protein on the plate. That defined me then; that is where mother nature embraced me. Nobody teased me about being small or slow maturing, nobody bullied me, nobody hated me for the power of my intellect. I loved the environment and it loved me back. It allowed me to be a valued and successful person.

Now, 70 some years later that is where I feel most valid as a person. Yes, it is clearly better in a boat and clearly better when I catch fish. It is the most better when I share it with my descendants.

I am glad a lot of folks don't "get" it. My world would be too crowded.

Everyone realizes that the venting here is all about the time wasted and the yapping going on that takes the time away from the water -- right? When I am crabbing or fishing, I don't need to be running to find a camera for a guy and his umpteen-hundreth fish?

I think we are actually more alike than you might think. I have a go-fast plus a basic fishing platform. I want to go fishing. I'm a purist. If we're going offshore (hitching a ride on larger boat), then let's go. Let's get to the boat, check it out and be ready.

If it's 11 am and you want to stop in a tackle shop (OMG, why did I let you drive?), I want to hurt you -- bad. :p Crabbing is supposed to be fun. The kids want to drop lines and catch crabs. Do we need to stop somewhere to get everything you need to fix your trot line right now?

Probably reeled a few of you in with a baited thread title.

So, what I don't get isn't fishing, per se, but all the nonsense that takes the fun out of it.

Well... if you have to visit a pharmacy to get rid of them, I can see her point.

I understood you from the get go. The only time that I would make a big deal and grab the camera is when a kid catches a fish. As far as a brother in law making a big deal...it would be me saying....man overboard :D

In another thread in here, this one about drinking....and favorite choices of hooch....

Beer:

Land Shark in summer (it ain't local to FLA!).

Yuengling year round.

Drinks:

Bloody Mary dockside at a bar? Can't beat that.

Dirty Gin Martini

Also:

Monster Energy drink (Blue)

Interesting thread, but I guess I feel the same way about drinking beer and wine as YOU do about fishing...sometimes the discussion is overdone.;)
But the amazement when an adult pulls up an average fish or two, and it isn't their first. Da'hell is that?! Or, how they blather on about which fish are running, slack tides, this jig, that bait, my rod this and blah blah blah.
Dude... here' my 30 year-old rod and a basic top/bottom rig. BAM.
A couple of fish. Some traps and bunker. BAM. Crabs.
....
Keep your gear ready, grab the bait, and let's go. And when we pull one in, don't act like the bozo NFL wide-receiver who has to act like he's never been in the end zone.
....

A "summer " beer ?? D'A hell is that?? What kind of glass do you have to use to serve it?:facepalm:

Dude, just go to the ABC....(or Beer Store)..some mix and ice...$20- ... BAM :D
Oh yeah...and act like you've been to a kegger before...:D;).

For me fishing is just an activity to do on the boat(s). Something to do while I'm out on the water enjoying myself. I'm not particularly successful at it but it's still fun. I've been getting a little more into it the past couple years but I'm definitely not an expensive tackle or a "research the migratory habits or certain species" kinda person. I have never done any saltwater fishing but I'd like to.

Well Philster I can identify with you here. I feel the same way about deer hunting. I enjoy hunting and I even enjoy sitting around someone's camp, drinking a few beers, eating chili, skinning deer, and telling stories.....for a weekend......not a year. Some of the guys I hunt with want to talk about it 24/7. It's the first firearm deer season for THREE FREAKING DAYS guys! I can't eat, sleep, and breathe something that only occurs less than 1% of the year. Bow hunters being obsessed I can understand, their season is four weeks+....but three days??? Come on....

Very well said, JB. But then, I wouldn't expect anything less from you.

.

Half of the fun for me is the preparation of the boat and gear. I enjoy the slow life. Our fishing boat is on a lift. Sometimes I just lower her and fish without even firing up. I always carry a camera, especially if I have a newby onboard. Some people just like photos, doesn't bother me in the least. I guess being an ex charter boat captain (occasionally now, not often) has given me great pleasure in seeing others catch fish, be safe, and enjoy themselves. When your on my boat it's about you....not me. I'm just here to look after you and serve. To me fishing is serious, catching isn't. Somebody needs to be in charge, so I'll do the serious stuff and leave the fun to those onboard.

That said....being on the water in anything from a dingy, a jet flea, a go-fast, to a Mother ship, makes me happy.:D

I fully understand. That is why I don't take the wife and kids, if you want to call them that, very often.

A good friend of mine lives on the water on the Eastern Shore. It is quicker to put the boat in the water and make the 30 mile run over to his house than it is to deal with the traffic on the Bay Bridge. Before we can even get to the ramp, we have to stop any number of times to pick up everything from snacks to shorts because someone forgot to bring shorts in July? Come on.

If we?re fishing we leave the dock in the dark and the lines are in the water by sun rise. I do not wait for people. If I say the boat leaves the dock at 5:15 am, the boat leaves at 5:15 if they are there or not. It?s my boat and it?s my way or the highway

Sure it is . . . Don't worry, we all stop for "the Gatherers" when we have to.

If you're in the woods or at sea, you drink whatever sustains life; there's no time for fussin'. When you're back enjoying the life you've sustained, then drink well, my friend! Order what you want if you feel you've earned it.
